Moko's Passing

With a heavy heart, we let Moko pass yesterday, July 5th, at 11:10AM. He had simply decided that it was his time to go. There is so much more to say, but I can't bring myself to write it down yet, other than to say we love you Moko and thanks for being the best dog we could've ever asked for. You are greatly missed.

Moko's 14th Birthday!

Moko was born on July 2nd, 1997. In the fall of 1997, I was heading to the University of Georgia to start school and was thinking about getting a dog to join me. That's when I found Moko, a 6 week old puppy that would end up becoming a fantastic dog and one of the family. He was a puppy through and through, getting into eveything, and usually destroying it in the process. The first shoes I ever bought a women were shoes for Aki that Moko chewed up when she came to visit my place very early on.
He grew into a loyal, handsome young dog (and older-bro to our other dog Kuma). His chewing days ended and all of the "puppy" behaviors were replaced with the behaviors of a well-trained, confident, adult dog (at least most of the time). He welcomed Curren to our family in 2007 with a bit a detachment, but they have since become good pals and he lets her do pretty much whatever she wants to do to him.
He is now grey in the face, can't see very well, and no longer runs after his beloved tennis balls anymore. But, his spirited, loving, beautiful self is thankfully still with us. So today we will celebrate Moko's 14th birthday with bones and treats and lots of love and attention and be grateful that we have such a great dog.

First Trip EVER to the Dentist!

Day at the ballpark

Curren and I caught the Padres - Mariners game on Sunday. Despite the Padres loss, we had a good time.

Happy Mother's Day!!

We had a great Mother's Day this year. Aki had a fruit breakfast in bed, we went shopping, and had a fantastic late lunch at the Charthouse in Cardiff (which is where we had Aki's first Mother's Day in '07). Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's who may read this blog, especially my Mom and Kyoko, my Mother-in-law.

Curren and Greeny the iguana

Just another iguana cruisin' around Santa Monica on a leash. Curren had no fear of Greeny, so Greeny seemed to have no fear of her.

Recent Happenings

No pics this time around, but I wanted to write a few tidbits on what's been happening recently. On July 6th, Curren moved up from the 2 year old class (Monkeys) to the 3-5 year old class (Sealife). She's lovin it and coming home exhausted now that she's hangin with the big kids. We continued the tradition of having a 4th of July party at our place and were lucky enough to have the Barcellos's and the Crain's, including their 11 day-old son Andrew and Kathleen's Mom, Elizabeth. Today, July 7th, Curren began swim lessons at school and for the first time, put her whole head under water. We're extremely proud of her...it's a big step to her getting out into the ocean for a surf. All in all, life's good.

Here's what happens when Moko gets involved in a game of pretend with Curren.
